Dive into this Fortnite beginners guide to learn all the basics of Fortnite for beginners, from downloading the game to figuring out your goal.
Choose Your Console
What’s the best way to play Fortnite? Well, that’s a loaded question.
You can play the game on your PC, smartphone, PS4, and Xbox, and everybody swears by a different option. Most gamers stick to their preferred consoles and don’t want to venture into different gaming territory (PCs and phones). This has its disadvantages when it comes to Fortnite, though.
On a PC, you have loads more playable options than you’ll have on a console. That means that, when in melee, you’ll almost always come out on top if you’re playing on a PC.
Pick a Game Option
Once you’ve chosen your console and logged into the game, you’ll need to pick a game option. Here are your choices.
If you choose “solo,” it’ll be you against 99 other random players. This is a fun way to just dive right in and get the lay of the land.
“Duo” means you’ll be working on a team with one other player. You’ll play against 49 other teams. You’ll have the same number of adversaries, except one, but get to exercise your strategic teamworking skills.
“Squads” means you’ll be on a team of four. Your squad will go up against 24 other teams of four. This one requires some real critical thinking and is probably the most challenging since it can be difficult to coordinate four people on a team.
“50 vs. 50” means you’re on a team with 49 other players, and you’re all against the other half of the people on the island. This is a sort of hybrid between a solo campaign and a team campaign since it feels like playing alone, but you definitely have allies on the island.
Fortnite Basics and Tips
Once you’re loaded in, here are a few key things to remember.
First of all, you start with only your pickaxe. Any other resources you get in the game, you either have to mine from the land or find in abandoned buildings. Stay curious, and you’ll find things.
Secondly, when you’re first dropped off, don’t jump off the bus the first chance you get. Wait until the last few seconds. You’ll have more space to claim a spot and less thrashing right in the beginning.
Third of all, when the storm comes, get to the white circle. You might not want to face adversaries there, but the storm will eventually kill you, so it’s pretty much non-negotiable. Don’t try to wait to storm out.
